Maternity Must Have’s

Whether this is your first child or fifth, (If it’s your fifth, wow! Let’s all applaud your patience!) first trimester or third, the most important thing about your maternity wardrobe is that it must be comfortable

Your body is going through so many changes and it is absolutely normal to feel uncomfortable and/or not so hot.  So make sure what you put on each day is something that at the very least, is cozy and comfy.

Here’s the list for Mommys To Be:

Maternity Denim:  Make sure you pick up at least one pair of maternity jeans.  (I think the ones with the large elastic band on the top are the most comfy so that they stretch and expand comfortably with your expanding belly.  Also an option- the jeans with buttons and adjustable waist inside the jean-kind of like little kids’ pants.) You can get skinny jeans, bootcut jeans, straight leg jeans, or boyfriend style jeans.  I recommend if you have a job where you can dress down during the week- one bootcut and one skinny pair of maternity denim.  If not, just pick your favorite cut.

Maternity Pants or Suit Set:  If you are an expectant mom who has to
dress professional during the work day, make sure to get at least 1-2
pairs of dress maternity pants and one maternity blazer or suit set.
Once again, I totally recommend the stretchy band at the top of the pant.
I vote for a black or brown blazer so that it can be mixed and matched
and worn often during your pregnancy.  If you don’t have to dress
professional each day, grab 1 pair of black maternity pants for any
dressy occasions which may pop up this year.  (Let’s face it, you will
still be wearing maternity clothes for at least 1-3 months after the
baby is born, while you work your way back TOWARDS your pre-baby bod.)

Maternity Leggings:  When I say be comfy and cozy, this is where it’s at!
Wearing leggings feels like you are in sweatpants ALL DAY LONG!  I would
say this is wear you rack up.  Black, grey, tan, wine, brown, etc.  At
least 3 pairs of leggings which mix and match with your tops, so that
you can wear the leggings as often as possible!  You can opt for non-maternity
leggings if you would like, but remember maternity clothing is made especially
for this time in your life so that it stretches it all the right areas,as
needed.

Maternity Wrap Dress:  A Maternity wrap dress is a great way to get dressed
up, and stay super comfy.  Make sure you check the fabrics for some
spandex- STRETCH is the root of all comfort!  You can dress up the wrap
dress with a pair of comfy heels for a night out or were super cute comfy
ballet flats for a day in the office.  A wrap dress is very flattering
and will definetly highlight your adorable baby bump in a sympapthetic
way.

Maternity Shoes:  When you’re expecting the unavoidable weight that you
put on, can put pressure on your feet.  Treat your toes well!  Make
sure you wear comfortable flats as much as possible- wide widths are
also great.  My favorites- Check out the classic collection at
www.toms.com.  They very fashionable, very comfy, and come in wide widths.
Toms also gives a pair of shoes to someone in need, with every shoe
purchase- what is better than that!

My savior last go around (and I can’t wait to run and get one now) was the Belly Band! It allowed me to wear shirts and bottoms I already owned…with extra support and needed coverage. http://www.motherhood.com/maternity/belly-bands.asp

Where I had an issue? I am pretty short and beyond that was not, well, petite…so it was hard for me pants that were a good length for me without having to get alterations. Any suggestions?
