To anyone else who took my advice and went to Breakfast with Santa at the Gideon Putnam please accept my apologies for suggesting it and I hope you did not have the same experience we did.
I have been to the Gideon's brunch many times without children and it's been lovely, always. I thought that since it was specific event for children, it would be the same as always. Not the case! We got there, were escorted to a room that we were the only people in, which is always nice. Asked the person who sat us for a high chair for our littlest one. When our waiter came over we asked him for a high chair also. {We did finally get one AFTER we had gone up to the buffet, gotten our food and asked 2 more times. Yes, I had to ask 4 times for a high chair}
I think our waiter really didn't want to wait on us. We were the first people seated in the room and yet he went to a table seated after us first{a while after us}, when we asked for drinks he said he would get them after we went to get our food. So, we had to ask twice for orange juice. Not bad compared to the high chair though!! At this point it was only us & one other table {of two adults}. As the room filled we were pretty much ignored. We were the only table with kids and everyone else seemed to get attention so I can only think that was the difference. We never got refills on our coffee. I had to ask someone who looked to be a manager to take away the dirty plates that were piling up on our table {since it was buffet we got a new plate each time}
I have waited tables for many years and am very understanding when people are busy or overwhelmed. But, some things are just not acceptable! If I am the only table you are waiting on, get a freakin' high chair!!! If you only have 2 tables, I shouldn't have to ask twice for orange juice. If you are filling coffee cups at other tables, stop by and fill mine too instead of walking by me.
For a child based event, it was not family friendly.
Santa, on the other hand was great. We saw him right when we walked in and he took the time to stop and chat with the kids, spent time with them. {Probably more than our waiter did.} I wish he had come around to each table, but he did walk through the room we were in and wave to the kids again.
My biggest regret? Having waited table it's natural for me to tip well. I still tipped a little more than 15% percent {less than I normally do though}. I really wish I had tipped less and written on the check why I did.
Sorry if anyone else had this experince too! I will never suggest the Gideon Putnam again.
I will suggest the Desmond breakfast with Santa coming this weekend. We have been there for breakfst with the kids many times and always had a great experience, even when they've been busy.
